Target Information

Troponin I serves as the inhibitory subunit of troponin, the regulatory complex on thin filaments that imparts calcium sensitivity to striated muscle actomyosin ATPase activity. In mice, Tnni3 plays critical roles in both the physiological and pathological functions of the heart. Its deletion or mutation can lead to various cardiomyopathies, such as restrictive and dilated cardiomyopathy. Mice completely lacking the Tnni3 gene typically succumb to cardiac dysfunction within approximately 18 days after birth. Throughout heart development in mice, Tnni3 expression, along with skeletal muscle Tnnt1 and fast skeletal muscle Tnnt2, is crucial for regulating the heart's development and maturation.
