Target Information
Transient receptor potential cation channel subfamily V member 1 (TRPV1) is a non-selective calcium-permeable cation channel that plays a crucial role in detecting noxious chemical and thermal stimuli. In mice, TRPV1 is involved in a variety of functions, including pain perception, inflammatory response, metabolic regulation, cardiovascular protection, and temperature regulation. It serves as a key receptor for thermal and mechanical pain, activated by capsaicin, high temperatures, and certain chemical stimuli, thus triggering pain responses. Mice lacking TRPV1 exhibit significant analgesia, evidenced by altered sensitivity to capsaicin and changes in heat pain thresholds. Furthermore, the expression of TRPV1 in neurons is closely linked to pain sensitivity, and restoring its function can significantly enhance mechanical and thermal sensitivity.
