Target Information
Cathelicidin antimicrobial peptide is a crucial protein within the innate immune system, known for binding to bacterial lipopolysaccharides (LPS). In mice, these antimicrobial peptides, particularly through their C-terminal regions like mCRAMP, demonstrate their antibacterial effects. Due to their cationic nature, these peptides can interact with the negatively charged bacterial membranes, increasing membrane permeability and ultimately killing the bacteria. For instance, mCRAMP shows strong antimicrobial activity against various bacteria in mice, including Escherichia coli O157:H7, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Streptococcus. Additionally, cathelicidin also exhibits some antimicrobial effects against fungi and viruses.
