Target Information
Short transient receptor potential channel 5 forms a receptor-activated, non-selective calcium-permeant cation channel. It is likely operated by a phosphatidylinositol second messenger system, activated by receptor tyrosine kinases or G-protein coupled receptors. Although it has been demonstrated to be calcium-selective, it might also be activated by the depletion of intracellular calcium stores. In mice, this channel is encoded by the Trpc5 gene. The functions of TRPC5 in mice involve multiple aspects such as neural development, sensory function, inflammatory response, pain perception, metabolic regulation, and pathological mechanisms in disease models.
