Target Information
CaMKK2 is pivotal in energy metabolism via the AMPK (AMP-activated protein kinase) signaling pathway. Research indicates that the absence of CaMKK2 can shield mice from obesity and insulin resistance induced by a high-fat diet, while also enhancing glucose tolerance. This effect is associated with CaMKK2's role in regulating appetite and energy balance in the hypothalamus, such as by inhibiting the expression of neuropeptide Y (NPY) and agouti-related peptide (AgRP), thus reducing food intake. Furthermore, the loss of CaMKK2 results in decreased expression of genes related to glucose production in the liver, alongside increased fatty acid oxidation and lipolysis, thereby improving overall metabolic health. In terms of inflammation, CaMKK2 is expressed in macrophages and influences TLR4-mediated signaling pathways, impacting the magnitude of the inflammatory response.
