Target Information

Tissue Alpha-L-Fucosidase is an enzyme that breaks down fucose, a sugar molecule. It is encoded by the FUCA1 gene in cattle. It helps break down complexes of sugar molecules (oligosaccharides) attached to certain proteins (glycoproteins) and fats (glycolipids). Fucosidosis is an autosomal recessive lysosomal storage disease caused by defective alpha-L-fucosidase, leading to the accumulation of fucose in the tissues. This protein is responsible for degradation of fucose-containing glycoproteins and glycolipids.
