Target Information

Toll-like receptor 9 (TLR9) plays a crucial role in both innate and adaptive immunity. Toll-like receptors (TLRs) are responsible for mediating the host's immune response to pathogens by identifying specific molecular patterns associated with microorganisms. TLR9, specifically, is a nucleotide-sensing receptor activated by unmethylated cytidine-phosphate-guanosine (CpG) dinucleotides. In mice, TLR9 activates the innate immune system by recognizing CpG DNA, thereby regulating a range of immune responses and disease processes. Its functions extend beyond defending against infections; it also plays a part in regulating autoimmune diseases, inflammatory conditions, and maintaining intestinal microbial balance. Research indicates that mice lacking TLR9 exhibit a significant reduction in the production of anti-double-stranded DNA (dsDNA) and anti-histone antibodies, though the production of anti-Sm antibodies remains unaffected.
