Target Information

Poly [ADP-ribose] polymerase 2 is a poly-ADP-ribosyltransferase involved in the poly-ADP-ribosylation of proteins, playing a critical role in DNA repair. It is particularly important in the repair of DNA damage through base excision repair (BER) and homologous recombination repair. During embryonic development, PARP2 collaborates with PARP1 to ensure chromosome stability and preserve genome integrity. Mice with a double knockout of Parp1 and Parp2 (Parp1⁻/⁻/Parp2⁻/⁻) do not survive beyond embryonic day 9.5 (E9.5), highlighting the complementary functions of PARP1 and PARP2 in embryonic development, particularly concerning X chromosome inactivation.
