Target Information
Granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF) is a cytokine that promotes the growth and differentiation of hematopoietic precursor cells across various lineages, including granulocytes, macrophages, eosinophils, and erythrocytes. In mice, GM-CSF functions in regulating hematopoiesis and the immune system, defending against infections, and treating diseases. Its mechanism of action encompasses the direct stimulation of hematopoietic precursor cell proliferation and differentiation, enhancement of mature granulocyte functions, and synergistic interactions with other cytokines. In infection models, GM-CSF can significantly increase the phagocytic ability of granulocytes to bacteria. In addition, GM-CSF can also enhance the ability of granulocytes to kill pathogens, such as Leishmania infection.
