Target Information

12-Hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acid (12-HETE) is a derivative of the 20 carbon polyunsaturated fatty acid, arachidonic acid. 12-HETE acts locally as an autocrine or paracrine signaling agent. It can regulate cellular responses and tissue behavior. Its involvement has been suggested in various physiological and pathological reactions. Rabbit, chicken, rat, and dog erythrocytes (10(9) cells/ml) synthesized immunologically active 12-HETE when stimulated by the Ca²⁺ ionophore, A-23187.
