Target Information
Peptidoglycan recognition protein 1 (PGLYRP1) is an innate immunity protein that plays a vital role in antimicrobial and antitumor defense mechanisms. It functions as a pattern recognition receptor by binding to murein peptidoglycans (PGN) found in Gram-positive bacteria, thereby exerting bactericidal activity. In mice, PGLYRP1 is involved in a broad spectrum of biological functions, including antimicrobial defense, immune regulation, and the pathophysiological processes associated with various diseases. In the mouse cornea, PGLYRP1 is highly expressed in epithelial cells, where it provides protection against infections through its antimicrobial properties. For instance, Pglyrp1-deficient mice exhibit a significantly reduced ability to clear bacterial infections in the cornea and experience delayed wound healing, underscoring its critical role in maintaining corneal health and defense.
