Target Information

In mice, complement C5 is involved in various functions, such as immune regulation, inflammatory response, tissue repair, and disease pathogenesis. It plays a crucial role in liver regeneration; research indicates that mice lacking C5 exhibit significant liver regeneration abnormalities and ongoing liver tissue necrosis in a CCl4-induced hepatotoxicity model. The absence of C5 results in a delayed cell cycle progression to the S phase in hepatocytes and diminished cell proliferation. Notably, the restoration of liver regeneration can be achieved by administering exogenous C5 or C5a, suggesting that C5 enhances hepatocyte proliferation through the C5aR signaling pathway. Overall, complement C5 is integral to immunoregulation, inflammatory response, tissue repair, and disease pathogenesis in mice.
