Target Information

Catalase is a common enzyme found in nearly all living organisms exposed to oxygen (such as bacteria, plants, and animals). Catalase is encoded by the CAT gene in horses. It is an antioxidant enzyme which converts H₂O₂ to H₂O. It has been reported that equine digital laminae are well endowed with endogenous catalase and are expected to rapidly inactivate H₂O₂ thus limiting its conversion to highly toxic hydroxyl radicals and hypohalides.
