Target Information
Coagulation Factor VIII, in conjunction with calcium and phospholipids, acts as a cofactor for factor IXa to convert factor X into its activated form, factor Xa. This plasma protein is essential to the blood coagulation process, working with coagulation factor IXa and phosphatidylserine (PS) to activate factor Xa and facilitate blood clotting. In mice, Factor VIII shares structural and functional similarities with humans, including its A1, A2, and C1, C2 domains, which are critical for its stability, activity, and interactions with membrane proteins. Mouse models are extensively utilized to investigate the function of coagulation factor VIII and its role in diseases. Research has shown that glycosylation modifications significantly impact the function and stability of factor VIII, with abnormal glycosylation potentially linked to diseases such as hemophilia A.
