Target Information

Matrix metalloproteinase-15 is an endopeptidase capable of degrading various components of the extracellular matrix and may activate progelatinase A. In mice, the functions of MMP-15 are complex and wide-ranging, potentially playing roles in regulating inflammation and immune response and being involved in biological processes such as tumor development, pregnancy pathology, and cell apoptosis. In the experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) model, MMP-15 expression was notably downregulated. Studies have shown that EAE-induced microglia exhibit significantly reduced levels of MMP-15, suggesting that MMP-15 may have a protective role in the progression of central nervous system inflammation.
