Target Information
IL-35 is a heterodimeric cytokine that belongs to the IL-12 family and demonstrates significant immunosuppressive and regulatory effects in mice. It consists of two subunits: the IL-12α chain (p35) and EBI3. While IL-35 shares structural similarities with other IL-12 family members, it possesses distinct immunosuppressive properties. Primarily secreted by regulatory T cells (Tregs), IL-35 can also be produced by CD8+ T cells, activated dendritic cells (DCs), and regulatory B cells (Bregs). It exerts its immunosuppressive effects by inhibiting Th1 cell differentiation while promoting the formation of Th2 and Tregs. Furthermore, IL-35 helps maintain immune tolerance by suppressing the activation of effector T cells and macrophages.
