Target Information
In mice, platelet-derived growth factor-BB (PDGF-BB) has diverse functions, including roles in angiogenesis, muscle regeneration, bone regeneration, and neuroinflammation. PDGF-BB promotes angiogenesis in embryonic stem cell-derived endothelial cells via calcium-mediated production of reactive oxygen species (ROS). It activates peripheral platelet-derived growth factor receptor β (PDGFR-β), leading to an increase in intracellular calcium ion concentration, which in turn activates signaling pathways like ERK1/2 and c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK), fostering angiogenesis and endothelial cell migration. In mouse models of Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), PDGF-BB enhances muscle regeneration by promoting the proliferation of satellite cells and fibroblasts. Research shows that PDGF-BB significantly increases the number of satellite cells and regenerating fibers, while reducing inflammatory cell infiltration, though it does not significantly affect type I collagen expression.
