Target Information
In mice, β-hydroxyacyl-CoA dehydrogenase (β-HAD) plays a critical role in the β-oxidation of fatty acids. As a key enzyme, β-HAD catalyzes the β-oxidation of short-chain and medium-chain fatty acids, thereby providing energy for cellular processes. β-HAD is expressed in the liver, heart, and other tissues and is integral to fatty acid β-oxidation. Research indicates that β-HAD activity is influenced by high-fat diets or obesity; for example, in the hearts of obese mice, β-HAD activity is reduced, potentially leading to decreased fatty acid oxidation. Additionally, dietary interventions can affect β-HAD activity. An olive oil diet, for instance, can enhance β-HAD activity in the myocardium, thereby alleviating oxidative stress.
