Target Information
Cytochrome c oxidase subunit 7A2, located in the mitochondria, is a part of cytochrome c oxidase, the final enzyme in the mitochondrial electron transport chain responsible for driving oxidative phosphorylation. A study revealed that the expression of Cox7a2L was stimulated by exercise in mouse skeletal muscle and was closely associated with the mouse's exercise capacity, such as maximum oxygen uptake (VO₂max), and energy expenditure. By specifically restoring Cox7a2l expression in C57BL/6J mice, researchers observed enhanced exercise capacity, increased muscle mass, and higher energy expenditure in these mice.
