Target Information
Large proline-rich protein BAG6, also known as HLA-B Associated Transcript 3, is an ATP-independent molecular chaperone that prevents the aggregation of proteins with misfolded and hydrophobic regions. It is part of the cytosolic protein quality control complex, the BAG6/BAT3 complex, which maintains these client proteins in a soluble state and facilitates their proper delivery to the endoplasmic reticulum, or alternatively, directs them to the proteasome for degradation. Knocking out the BAG6 gene in mice results in spermatogenesis disorders, characterized by subfertility, partial damage to the blood-testis barrier, increased apoptosis rates in testicular cells, and abnormal sperm morphology.
