Target Information

Coagulation factors are essential proteins involved in the blood coagulation process, facilitating thrombus formation through a series of enzymatic reactions. Coagulation factor II, also known as prothrombin, is a crucial component of the extrinsic coagulation pathway. Its primary role is in generating thrombin, thereby initiating the coagulation cascade. Thrombin, which cleaves peptide bonds following Arg and Lys, converts fibrinogen to fibrin and activates factors V, VII, VIII, XIII, as well as protein C when complexed with thrombomodulin. Thrombin plays a role in maintaining blood homeostasis, inflammation, and wound healing. It also activates coagulation factor XI (F11), with its activation enhanced by contact with negatively charged surfaces.
