Target Information

Nesfatin-1 is an 82-amino acid peptide derived from the post-translational processing of nucleotide-binding protein 2 (NUCB2) in the hypothalamus. It serves several physiological functions, particularly in mice. Nesfatin-1 inhibits weight gain by acting directly on specific hypothalamic regions, such as the ventrolateral nucleus and arcuate nucleus, significantly decreasing food intake and extending the time between meals. Additionally, its elevated expression levels in obese mice suggest a close association with energy balance regulation. Beyond inhibiting food intake, Nesfatin-1 influences the gastrointestinal tract's motor functions, such as inhibiting gastric emptying and gastric acid secretion. Moreover, Nesfatin-1 can also decrease food intake through peripheral pathways.
