Target Information
Hepatoma-derived growth factor (HDGF) acts as a transcriptional repressor and possesses mitogenic activity for fibroblasts. It is known to bind heparin. HDGF is extensively expressed during mouse embryonic development, particularly in neurons. Research indicates that HDGF is present in the mouse brain from the embryonic stage through adulthood, with its nuclear localization potentially linked to its neuroprotective effects. Additionally, HDGF is highly expressed in the fetal liver of mice, where it promotes the proliferation of fetal hepatocytes but has a minimal impact on the growth of hepatocytes in newborn mice. HDGF exhibits neuroprotective functions and can partially prevent neuronal cell death, a phenomenon possibly associated with its nuclear presence.
