Target Information

Glutathione peroxidase 3 protects cells and enzymes from oxidative damage by catalyzing the reduction of hydrogen peroxide, lipid peroxides, and organic hydroperoxides using glutathione. GPx3 functions as a tumor suppressor in various cancers. For instance, in prostate cancer, reduced GPx3 expression is closely linked to the onset and progression of the disease. Research has demonstrated that mice lacking GPx3 are more prone to prostate cancer, with a significantly increased proliferation capacity of their tumor cells. Additionally, GPx3 is involved in the p53-induced gene 3 cell death signaling pathway, further elucidating its potential mechanism in tumor suppression.
