Target Information
KCNQ4, a member of the potassium voltage-gated channel subfamily KQT, serves as a pore-forming component of the voltage-gated potassium (Kv) channel, which plays a critical role in regulating the excitability of sensory cells in the cochlea. The KCNQ4/Kv7.4 channel is structured as a tetramer, consisting of four pore-forming subunits. In mice lacking KCNQ4, the auditory system exhibits abnormal responses, characterized by an intensified reaction to sound stimuli, referred to as the "acoustic startle reflex." This heightened response is linked to the overexcitability of specific structures in the brainstem that normally regulate this reflex.
