Target Information
The H-2 class II histocompatibility antigen gamma chain is essential in MHC class II antigen processing, as it stabilizes peptide-free class II alpha/beta heterodimers shortly after their synthesis. It guides the transport of these complexes from the endoplasmic reticulum to compartments where peptide loading occurs. Additionally, it enhances T-cell responses by interacting with CD44. In mice, the gamma chain of the HLA class II histocompatibility antigen (CD74) is crucial for antigen capture, endocytosis, and delivery to MHC class II loading compartments. The absence of HLA class II molecules in mice results in the depletion of CD4+ T cells.
