Target Information

Endoglin is a glycoprotein found in the vascular endothelium, crucial for regulating angiogenesis. It helps maintain the normal structure and integrity of adult vasculature by influencing the migration of vascular endothelial cells. In mice, endoglin is involved in a variety of functions, including angiogenesis, immune response, inflammation, wound healing, cardiovascular and neurological diseases, and tumor progression. Its role in angiogenesis is particularly notable, as studies have shown that mice lacking endoglin die around the middle of embryonic development (approximately 11.5 days of gestation) due to defects in vascular development. Endoglin supports angiogenesis by promoting the proliferation and migration of endothelial cells through its interaction with TGF-β1.
