Target Information

Cathepsin G is a serine protease with trypsin- and chymotrypsin-like specificity that exhibits antibacterial activity against both Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria, independent of its protease activity. It favors cleaving substrates at Phe and Tyr residues in the P1 position but also efficiently cleaves after Trp and Leu. In mice, Cathepsin G plays multiple roles, including immunomodulation, antigen presentation, inflammatory response, and involvement in disease-related pathological processes. As a neutrophil-derived protease, it enhances immune responses by promoting the migration and proliferation of T lymphocytes. Cathepsin G can activate mouse T lymphocytes and regulate antigen-specific humoral immune responses by increasing the production of IFNγ and IL-4. Furthermore, in non-obese diabetic (NOD) mice, downregulating Cathepsin G significantly reduces blood glucose levels and improves pancreatic β-cell function by inhibiting the activation of CD4+ T cells.
