Target Information
Semaphorin-3E is integral to signaling through the cell surface receptor PLXND1, facilitating the reorganization of the actin cytoskeleton, which leads to the retraction of cell projections. It promotes the disassembly of focal adhesions and inhibits endothelial cell adhesion to the extracellular matrix, playing a regulatory role in angiogenesis during both embryonic development and postnatal life by down-regulating sprouting angiogenesis. Sema3e and Plexin-D1 are crucial in the neurodevelopment of the mouse cerebral cortex, particularly for establishing sensory-motor connections; they help maintain normal neural network structures by regulating neuronal migration and synapse formation. Additionally, Sema3e is vital in regulating dendritic cell (DC) function. Its absence enhances DC migration ability but affects antigen uptake and cytokine secretion. For instance, mice lacking Sema3e exhibit more severe allergic reactions and airway remodeling in allergic airway inflammation.
