CCAAT/enhancer-binding protein alpha is a transcription factor that plays a role in the differentiation of specific blood cells. In rabbits, it is encoded by the CEBPA gene. The protein resulting from this intronless gene is a bZIP transcription factor capable of binding as a homodimer to certain promoters and gene enhancers. It can also form heterodimers with related proteins such as CEBP-beta and CEBP-gamma, as well as with distinct transcription factors like c-Jun. The function of CEBPA in rabbits is likely to be similar to its role in humans and other mammals, mainly involving the regulation of cell differentiation and proliferation.
