Dual specificity tyrosine-phosphorylation-regulated kinase 1A (DYRK1A) is a kinase with both serine/threonine and tyrosine kinase activities. It plays a crucial role in mammalian development and neural function. Research using mouse models has highlighted its involvement in various biological processes. High levels of DYRK1A expression in the mouse brain are closely associated with neural development and cognitive functions. Studies have demonstrated that overexpression of DYRK1A can lead to neurodevelopmental delays, motor abnormalities, and cognitive deficits in mice, including impaired learning and memory. In mouse embryos, excessive DYRK1A expression inhibits neuronal proliferation and encourages premature neuronal differentiation, thereby impacting brain development.
