Target Information
The Adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) peptide is considered the major factor responsible for inducing cortisol synthesis and release from interrenal cells in the head kidney. ACTH stimulates the adrenal glands to produce and release cortisol (a glucocorticoid) and androgens (such as dehydroepiandrosterone). It is involved in the body's response to biological stress. ACTH has also been shown to have immune-enhancing activities. It is involved in the acute stress response in Atlantic salmon.
