Target Information
Cannabinoid receptor 1 is a G-protein coupled receptor that responds to cannabinoids, including endocannabinoids (eCBs) such as N-arachidonoylethanolamide (anandamide or AEA) and 2-arachidonoylglycerol (2-AG). In mice, CB1 receptors are present in the cerebellum, where their activation by agonists can lead to motor coordination disorders, characterized by abnormal gait and increased slipping times in the Bartholin's rod test. CB1 receptors are widely distributed throughout the mouse brain, particularly in the hippocampus and striatum. Mice lacking CB1 receptors exhibit a significant decline in cognitive functions, demonstrated by diminished learning and memory capabilities and poor performance in partner recognition tasks.
