Target Information
12-Hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acid (12-HETE) is a derivative of the 20 carbon polyunsaturated fatty acid, arachidonic acid. 12-HETE acts locally as an autocrine or paracrine signaling agent. It can regulate cellular responses and tissue behavior. Rabbit, chicken, rat, and dog erythrocytes (10(9) cells/ml) synthesized immunologically active 12-HETE when stimulated by the Ca2+ ionophore, A-23187. Notably, 12-HETE is also associated with inflammation.
