Target Information
Cadherin-2 is a calcium-dependent cell adhesion protein that primarily facilitates homotypic cell-cell adhesion by forming dimers with CDH2 chains from adjacent cells. This mechanism enables cadherins to aid in the sorting of different cell types. Cadherin-2 is crucial in regulating neural stem cell quiescence by anchoring these cells to ependymocytes in the adult subependymal zone. When cleaved by MMP24, this anchorage is altered, affecting neural stem cell quiescence. In the developing mouse central nervous system (CNS), particularly the brain and spinal cord, Cadherin-2 is widely expressed and plays a key role in neuron migration and morphogenesis.
