Target Information
NAD-dependent protein deacylase sirtuin-5, mitochondrial, is an enzyme that removes malonyl, succinyl, and glutaryl groups from target proteins in an NAD-dependent manner. Sirtuin 5 (Sirt5) is a member of the mammalian sirtuin family and functions as an NAD±dependent deacetylase. It plays a vital role in various metabolic and cellular functions, particularly in mitochondrial metabolism, energy production, ammonia detoxification, oxidative stress regulation, and protection against neurodegenerative and cardiovascular diseases. Sirt5 knockout mice exhibit mitochondrial dysfunction and abnormal energy metabolism under fasting conditions or cardiac pressure overload. Sirt5 is highly expressed in the heart, and its absence can result in cardiac hypertrophy, reduced cardiac function, and heart failure. Conversely, overexpression of Sirt5 can shield mice from ischemia-reperfusion injury and cardiac pressure overload.
