Target Information

Rat monoamine oxidase A (MAO-A) is a 59-kDa transmembrane flavoenzyme predominantly expressed in rat brain (neurons, astrocytes), liver, and gastrointestinal tract. It catalyzes the oxidative deamination of monoamines (serotonin, norepinephrine, dopamine), regulating neurotransmitter homeostasis and systemic monoamine metabolism. Critical for rat neural signaling, emotional regulation, and stress responses, it modulates behavioral and physiological processes via precise monoamine clearance. Dysregulated activity associates with neuropsychiatric disorders (depression, anxiety), cardiovascular dysfunction, and metabolic imbalances. As a key regulator of monoamine signaling and metabolism, rat MAO-A is a critical target for studying neurobiology, psychiatric disorders, and monoamine-targeted therapeutics.
