Target Information
Interleukin-1 Receptor Antagonist is a naturally occurring protein that acts as an inhibitor of the pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-1A and IL-1B. It competes with these cytokines for binding to their receptors, effectively preventing their inflammatory effects. Interleukin 1 Receptor Antagonist is encoded by the IL1RN gene in horses. It is a natural cytokine that specifically inhibits IL-1-mediated proinflammatory actions such as induction of acute phase protein synthesis by hepatocytes, induction of fever, and stimulation of chondrocytes and synovial cells to produce prostaglandin E by binding to IL-1 receptors located on target cells.
