Target Information
Bovine Versican is encoded by the VCAN gene in cattle. It belongs to the lectican protein family, along with other members like aggrecan (abundant in cartilage), brevican, and neurocan (nervous system proteoglycans). It is a large chondroitin sulfate/dermatan sulfate proteoglycan in the extracellular matrix and one of the aggrecan/lectican family. It has a versatile modular structure, consisting of N-terminal (G1) globular domain, C-terminal (G3) globular domain, and glycosaminoglycan (GAG) binding regions.
