Target Information

Beta-Endorphin is an endogenous opioid neuropeptide and peptide hormone produced by specific neurons within both the central nervous system and peripheral nervous system. In equines, beta-endorphin is released during the early stages of stress, thereby enhancing the hormonal cascade of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis. It plays a role in facilitating active coping strategies under stressful conditions and can be considered a precocious marker of stress.
