Target Information

Interferon Regulatory Factor 1 (IRF-1) is a transcriptional regulator with diverse functions in modulating cellular responses. It controls the transcription of interferon (IFN) and IFN-inducible genes, the host response to viral and bacterial infections, and the expression of numerous genes during hematopoiesis, inflammation, immune responses, cell proliferation, and differentiation. Additionally, it regulates the cell cycle and induces growth arrest and programmed cell death in response to DNA damage. IRF-1 is a crucial transcription factor that oversees the expression of type I interferon (IFN-α/β) and activates interferon-induced genes. Research has demonstrated that IRF-1 participates in regulating inflammatory and immune responses in mice by modulating the expression of inflammation-related genes, such as iNOS and ICE. Mice deficient in IRF-1 show reduced inflammatory responses in certain inflammation models, likely due to its inhibitory effect on inflammation-related genes.
