Target Information

Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor delta is a ligand-activated transcription factor that acts as a key mediator of energy metabolism in adipose tissues. This receptor binds to peroxisome proliferators, including hypolipidemic drugs and fatty acids. In the reproductive system, PPARD is vital for testicular development and spermatogenesis in mice. It maintains the integrity of the blood-testis barrier by regulating Sertoli cell maturation and the expression of tight junction proteins. Mice lacking PPARD display testicular atrophy, reduced numbers of spermatogenic cells, and degeneration of these cells, highlighting PPARD's protective role in male reproductive health.
