Target Information
The basement membrane-specific heparan sulfate proteoglycan core protein is a vital component of basement membranes. It contributes to the glomerular basement membrane (GBM), imparting a fixed negative electrostatic charge that creates a barrier selective to both size and charge. In mice, Hspg2 serves various functions, and its absence or functional defects can cause abnormalities across multiple tissues and organs, such as bones, cartilage, blood vessels, the nervous system, and the metabolic system. Mice deficient in Hspg2 exhibit disorganized collagen fibers in the tail tendon and Achilles tendon, which may affect their normal function and repair capabilities.
