Target Information
Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) significantly influences sexual development and fertility. Unlike in mammals, both gonadotropins (FSH and LH) efficiently stimulate steroidogenesis in fish, likely through direct interaction with their cognate receptors on Leydig cells. In fish, FSH plays a crucial role in early gonadal development and vitellogenesis. Similar to mammals, FSH is a heterodimer consisting of a noncovalently associated alpha subunit and a hormone-specific beta subunit.
