Target Information
3α,5α-Tetrahydro Progesterone (3α,5α-THP), also known as allopregnanolone (ALLO), is a neurosteroid synthesized in the body from progesterone. It acts as a positive allosteric modulator of the GABA A receptor, enhancing the inhibitory effects of the neurotransmitter GABA. It is a potent sedative, anxiolytic, and anticonvulsant. It enhances the inhibitory effects of GABA, leading to reduced neuronal excitability. Research has shown that circadian disruption by light-at-night induced Purkinje cell death through pineal ALLO activity during early life in chicks.
