Target Information

Mitochondrial thioredoxin is vital for controlling mitochondrial reactive oxygen species homeostasis, regulating apoptosis, and ensuring cell viability, thanks to its dithiol-reducing activity. In mice, TXN2 supports mitochondrial function, cell survival, apoptosis regulation, antioxidant protection, and is linked to various diseases. Research demonstrates that TXN2 is crucial for mouse embryonic development, where its absence can result in embryonic lethal defects like premature apoptosis and abnormal neural tube closure. TXN2 is key in regulating mitochondria-dependent cell apoptosis. Studies have found that TXN2-deficient mouse cells accumulate excessive ROS, leading to the activation of apoptosis-related proteins such as caspase-9 and caspase-3, which induce cell apoptosis.
