Target Information

Oxytocin is a natural hormone that controls key aspects of the female and male reproductive systems, including labour, birth and lactation. It is a peptide hormone and neuropeptide normally produced in the hypothalamus and released by the posterior pituitary gland. In a caprine model, high levels of luteal oxytocin may be related to the high incidence of short estrus at the start of the breeding season.
