Target Information
Ghrelin is encoded by the goat gene GHRL. It predominantly produced by enteroendocrine cells in the gastrointestinal tract, particularly the stomach. It is a novel peptide modified by n-octanoic acid at the third serine residue and serves as an endogenous ligand for the growth hormone secretagogue receptor 1a. Research has shown that administration of synthetic bovine ghrelin can increase plasma growth hormone levels in goats.
