Target Information
Feline i-PTH is an 84-amino acid polypeptide secreted by the parathyroid glands in response to low extracellular calcium levels. It serves as a primary regulator of calcium and phosphorus homeostasis by stimulating bone resorption, enhancing renal calcium reabsorption, and promoting vitamin D synthesis. Measuring the "intact" form is clinically superior in cats for diagnosing primary hyperparathyroidism and monitoring secondary hyperparathyroidism associated with chronic kidney disease (CKD), as it distinguishes active hormone from inactive fragments.
