Target Information
Bovine cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor 1A is encoded by the CDKN1A gene in cattle. This gene encodes a potent inhibitor of cyclin-dependent kinase. The encoded protein binds to and inhibits the activity of cyclin-cyclin-dependent kinase2 or cyclin-dependent kinase4 complexes and thus acts as a regulator of cell cycle progression in G1. The expression of this gene is tightly controlled by the tumour suppressor protein p53, which mediates p53-dependent G1 cell cycle arrest in response to a variety of stress stimuli. It was found to be remarkably differentially expressed between the mammary glands of lactating Holstein cows with extremely high and low milk protein and fat content.
